Both last year, when we were in San Cristobal, and this year in Campeche, the only meaningful relationship we made with locals are with Noah and Aviva's childcare providers.
This year they are going to Club Kid. We'll post a picture soon, but I want to put their contact information here in case anyone is visiting Campeche and needs childcare. Club Kid is not a formal program, you can use them as little or as much as you want, from once to daily.
Club Kid is a small drop in daycare in the Barrio de San Francisco, in a colonial neighborhood just north of the walled city. It is run by Manuelita and her family. The say they charge $3 or $4 an hour, but have tended to undercharge us. They have a variety of well used toys in their small space. They have dolls, a small slide, tricycles, plastic animals, etc. It has worked particularly well for our 2 year old. It works for Noah, 3 1/2 years old, as well, but the space is more geared to the younger babies.
The address is 31 Miguel Aleman, a little past Calle 45. Their number is 981 129 0511 (or from the US 011 52 1 981 129 0511).
(The only disclaimer I should add is that while Manuelita's family is awesome, loving and attentive, the person that sometimes covers the nursery in the afternoons is not always so engaged. She sometimes is watching tv when we go there.)
