Springtime (Boulder and Berkeley)

We went on a trip last month to Boulder, and we got to play with Abuelita and Greg, and also we saw Paula and Yair, Amir and Rachel, and cousin Galit! Here are some pictures.

We played a lot of games

We went to the Butterfly Pavillion and saw cool things

Noah made these origami flowers to go with Abuelita's plant

Then we came back from the snowy cold to the warm California winter, and we're back to wearing tshirts.

Aviva has been pronouncing her R’s very articulately and over pronounced, since she’s started to notice that she mispronounces them, just like Noah does. Instead of “rrr,” they’ve been saying “eh.” So “hurry up” becomes “heh wee up” and “garlic” becomes “gow eh wlic.” The R’s in the middle of the word with a vowel before it -- that’s what’s hard. But now, Aviva is compensating, so she’ll say “That’s really ‘heh wuh ddd. No! It’s ‘harrrrd’.” She’s correcting herself throughout the day, so every time she notices the letter R, she says it and corrects it. Noah, on the other hand, just says it the wrong way and isn’t bothered. So the other day they were talking together and I overheard:

Aviva: So after Mr. John said “hi” to us, he feh wu did. No, I mean farrrrrted.”

Noah: Ha! What did he do?

Aviva: He farrrrrted. Now you say it!

Noah: Feh wu did.

Aviva: No! Listen. Farrrrted.

Noah: Farrrted.

Aviva: Good job!

Some other interesting words:

Arms = eh wims

Sorry = seh wee

Harper (her friend) = ha weh poo wa

Starred = steh wood

Literally (something Noah said a lot, and Aviva sometimes uses) = little ee

“World,” which she needs to scrunch her face and curl her lip to do, like anything with and "rl"

Other words like sharp, hair, hard, garden, card, hurt, perfect -- all of these are first said with a “w” instead of the “r”, and then corrected to over-enunciate the “r.”

Something else Aviva has been doing: When she asks a question and I give her the answer she wants, she’ll say, “Yes! Ncha ncha ncha ncha!” like a dance club beat. I guess they do that at school, and they also “raise the roof” (pushing their hands up).

She’s been making pictures and cards for people. They are all enthusiastically loving and sweet. Sometimes she makes them when she’s been sent to her room and she is mad, cranky, and mean. The letters are still loving and happy and still have the frilly hearts and smiling kitty pictures and say “I love you.”

Noah’s photos, by the way, are at this link: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1-aLeXtYh4R-PgS9qjZEWx7rwWDTQNb4tBQKOwCW__SE/edit?usp=sharing

And of course, here is Aviva’s bedroom:

Aviva loves her room and loves decorating her room. There is a lot of stuff here, but she is sure that every single thing is right where it's supposed to be, and there's a reason it's there.

This is also very purposeful. The green paper at the bottom is grass for the
play structure that's on it. The magnatiles are a house with different rooms and
different people are in the rooms doing different things.

This is a camping site and there's food being grilled on the fire pit

The balloons have some function I've forgotten. There are craft supplies and books behind her and the yellow and orange flowers are taped to the side of the bed above the hanging art. And on the right of her bed, you can see her fleecy blanket that she made by tying knots (thank you, Nina and Judah!)
